Description
OsKracht Video Compressie helps you make even large video files (up to 2 GB) significantly smaller without visible quality loss, so you can self-host them on your WordPress website — no ads, no third-party branding, and no monthly subscription fees to services like Vimeo.
What can you do with OsKracht Video Compressie?
- Compress large video files (up to 2 GB)
- Optimize existing videos from your WordPress Media Library
- Use the compressed video directly on your website, with a dedicated Elementor widget or a simple shortcode
- Download the optimized video at any time
- Restore the original video if needed
- No YouTube or Vimeo branding
- No monthly subscription required
The plugin sends your video to a secure external processing server (video.oskracht.nl) where compression takes place via FFmpeg. This happens because video compression is very resource-intensive and not suitable for regular shared WordPress hosting.
More technical details:
- Choose between AV1, H.265, or WebM for the compressed output
- Optionally convert to a 9:16 or 1:1 aspect ratio
- Full compression history with file size savings and shortcodes
- Share a compressed video by email directly from your dashboard
- Autoplay-on-scroll option for background-style video placement
Free trial: you can compress your first 2 videos for free, with a small watermark. A one-time upgrade to Premium is available for unlimited use without a watermark.
External Services
This plugin uses an external service to compress videos, because video compression is too resource-intensive to run on regular (shared) WordPress hosting.
Service: OsKracht Video Compressie server (video.oskracht.nl), operated by OsKracht.
When: only when the site administrator deliberately uploads a video via the plugin’s settings screen, or selects an existing video in the media library to optimize. Data is never sent automatically or without the administrator’s action.
What data is sent:
– The video file to be compressed
– The website’s domain name (for license linking)
– The site administrator’s email address (required when activating the plugin, including for the free trial)
– Optional: if the site administrator uses the built-in sharing feature to send a compressed video by email, the recipient’s email address they provide is used once to send that email
Retention period: the uploaded original is removed from the external server immediately after processing. The compressed video remains on the server as long as the account is active. In case of prolonged inactivity (depending on the chosen plan, typically several months), the account holder first receives an email warning, with a reasonable period to become active again before deletion takes place.
Payments: processed via Stripe. OsKracht does not store any payment card details itself.
View the full privacy policy or contact info@oskracht.nl. By activating and configuring the plugin, you agree to sending the data described above to this external service.

FAQ
-
Will my video lose quality?
-
Compression is done in a way that aims for no visible quality loss. The video file becomes significantly smaller, but the difference should not be noticeable during normal playback.
-
How much smaller will my video become?
-
This depends on the original video and the chosen format, but savings of roughly 85-92% are common in practice.
-
Which video formats are supported?
-
You can choose between AV1, H.265, or WebM for the compressed output.
-
Which video format should I choose?
-
AV1 is recommended for most cases: it offers the best quality-to-size ratio and is the fastest to process. H.265 offers broad compatibility. WebM is a solid alternative but takes considerably longer to process.
-
Is there a maximum video or file size?
-
Yes, the maximum file size per video is 2 GB.
-
Can I use the compressed video directly on my website?
-
Yes. You can place it using the dedicated Elementor widget, or with the plugin’s shortcode on any page or post, with or without Elementor.
-
Can I download the compressed video?
-
Yes, a download link for every compressed video is available in your compression history.
-
Do I need FFmpeg installed on my own hosting?
-
No. Compression takes place on a secure external server operated by OsKracht, so nothing needs to be installed on your own hosting.
-
What happens to my original video?
-
This depends on how you compressed it. If you uploaded a video directly via the plugin’s main screen, the original file is removed from the external server after processing (you still have your own original file, since you uploaded it from your own computer). If you optimized an existing video from your WordPress media library, the plugin automatically keeps a local backup on your own website, which you can restore with one click at any time.
-
Where is my video processed?
-
Videos are processed on a secure external server (video.oskracht.nl), operated by OsKracht. This happens because video compression is too resource-intensive for shared WordPress hosting.
-
Is my video stored permanently?
-
Uploaded originals are removed from the external server after processing. Compressed videos remain there as long as the account is active. In case of prolonged inactivity, the account holder first receives an email warning, with a reasonable period to become active again before the video is deleted.
-
Do I need Elementor to use this plugin?
-
No. Elementor users get a dedicated widget for convenience, but you can place a compressed video on any page or post using the plugin’s shortcode, with or without Elementor.
